Product Details

The machine itself is simple to set up, providing options to monitor your distance, time or calorie related goals, and the unique airdyne system provides a smooth workout with progressive resistance. The integrated heart-rate sensors in the grips allow for useful fitness monitoring, and the console is easy to use and read, with calories, speed, distance, RPM, and scrolling time. The striding motion allows for a fourteen inch elliptical footpath, which also engages more muscles than the traditional bike, so that you can ensure a more effective workout. The fan belt in the Schwinn 520 is quiet and flexible so you don’t have to worry about an uncomfortable or loud experience, and the extra padded seat is there to provide you with comfort during your exercise routine.

Performance

The Schwinn 520 Recumbent elliptical trainer is designed to provide a fun and effective way for users to work out and meet the fitness goals they’re aiming for. Combining the ergonomic position of an efficient and comfortable recumbent bike with the joint saving behaviour of an elliptical and the wind resistance of an Airdyne, the 520 provides an effective and easy to use system. They claim that the machine is easy to set up, and with a console that has been designed with the customer in mind, you shouldn’t have any trouble flicking through the different options available to you. The machine is particularly useful if you’re looking for a way to work out without putting too much pressure on your joints, supporting you in a comfortable position. The fourteen inch elliptical path simulates a natural type of walking motion while still promoting fitness and removing horrible joint stress.

What Customers Say

People who own the Schwinn 520 comment that they very much enjoy using the machine, far more than other styles of elliptical machines that they have used before. The reclined style helps for people to gently push themselves into exercise without having to hurt themselves to achieve results, and although there is no pain placed on the hips, knees, or ankles, you can be sure that you will achieve an effective workout. Although it is aimed at comfort, you should remember that you have to do some of the work yourself, and this means keeping your legs positioned properly throughout the workout. If you start to slack then you may start to experience the odd twinge of pain within your knees. The seat is adjustable to make exercise easy regardless of your height, and the machine itself is incredibly robust, with no worries that anything is going to fall apart during your work out.

Although the heart-rate sensors do work, there have been some concerns about the fact that you must have both hands on the handlebars for them to register properly. At that point, you do need to hold them for a reasonable amount of time to gain a good reading.

Warranties and Maintenance

The manufacturer’s warranty on the Schwinn recumbent elliptical trainer is five years for the metal frame, one year for the parts, electronics, and three months on wear parts.

Conclusion

My opinion of this machine is that it is worth its weight in gold. Although it was a little complicated to get used to, and is quite a large piece of equipment, it manages to provide an effective and comfortable workout without the pressure of any unnecessary strain. The Schwnn 520 gave me an enjoyable exercise experience, and it’s so comfortable that I could use for hours at a time.
